Hang out nights, a day of boating, a day at the park and one cheap camping trip is all we "planned".Knotterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03630892936483995921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26745252.post-66808105341763809992008-06-26T09:09:00.000-07:002008-06-26T09:09:00.000-07:00Kurt, being new to the area we have already seen t...Kurt, being new to the area we have already seen this idea and approach be very effective. All our monies and energy for big stuff is being poured into our student facility makeover so we have have plenty of just hang type nights & events. All our times this summer are just show up. Bonfires, Scavenger hunts on campus, Game On style games on our front lawn.

Would be interested to compare notes in the fallDanny Bowershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406004137185843577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26745252.post-72858324808442041292008-06-25T19:36:00.000-07:002008-06-25T19:36:00.000-07:00I am also curious about the staffing of the events...I am also curious about the staffing of the events. My concern has always been not having adequate supervision. Let's say we do a day at the park and 100 kids show up and it just the 3 staff for the afternoon....th08http://www.blogger.com/profile/06868297318485597685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26745252.post-48195688404600616212008-06-25T14:37:00.000-07:002008-06-25T14:37:00.000-07:00that actually sounds great. i worked hard to plan ...that actually sounds great. i worked hard to plan a lot of big stuff this year, and even advance plans, it got killed with the sports and stuff. so i like the thought behind it.Volkers84http://www.blogger.com/profile/10587591530545723621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26745252.post-41852629826654052542008-06-25T14:03:00.000-07:002008-06-25T14:03:00.000-07:00I'm curious how that impacts your volunteer team. ...I'm curious how that impacts your volunteer team. We're sending out mass text messages and posting to our website the day before and sometimes the day of a gathering/event. Should be fun! We'll see if it works :-)Chris S.http://coffeewithchris.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26745252.post-45451420574188122392008-06-25T11:10:00.000-07:002008-06-25T11:10:00.000-07:00I have also taken this approach this summer. Yest...I have also taken this approach this summer. Yesterday i showed the original Star Wars trilogy from 2pm - 10 pm. Had about a 1/3 of the kids watch the movie and the rest that showed up played pool/wii/carpet ball or football. It was great to just connect with kids for 8 hours without doing an all-nighter! I asked if they could bring $2 for pizza, but that's it. I will definitely do more stuff like this that is just a "Come hang out" event.John the Red Wonderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16385951365275677226noreply@blogger.com
