Weekend Wrap Up

Attendance: Above Average
Lesson Topic: Week Three of 'Reeled In' (Fish Stories From the Bible: Jonah)
'Fun Factor': Way Above Average
Volunteer Involvement: Average
Music: Average
Lesson Quality: Average
Length of Lesson: 20 minutes
Student Response: Average

We wrapped up a really good series with an average lesson. The talked missed the mark a little bit this week. It was decent, but not as strong as the first two in the series. The highlight of our weekend was our 'chocolate slip N slide' down the center of our room (we are in the middlle of 'Choctober'). It was a forty foot slide coverered in chocolate syrup, baby shampoo etc. Students volunteered to slide down it wearing rain panchos....really fun!

I remember hearing the "Choctober" suggestion as NYWC last year in Nashville.

So... what are your floors made out of? Seems like it would be a rough landing on tile, but maybe I'm just feeling old. :-)

Nick,
Our floors are made out of 3/4" rubber tiles that are laid out like tiles.....not super soft but better than most. We also put a wrestling pad under the first 4 feet of the slide to soften the landing zone. We chose the rubber flooring when we built our meeting space because we wanted something we could hose down and not worry about staining. The downside to the rubber floor is that the acoustics in the room for sound and music are pretty rough.

We are working redesigning our space, which is used by both college and Middle School. As we thought about it, it seemed like a lot of the things that would seem welcoming to college students would also seem welcoming to middle schoolers. With the stipulation that... whatever you buy... we *will* spill drinks and chips on it.

I didn't think about putting down a mat that definitely would help.

Kurt,

Just an encouragement. Many of my worst, or flat talks, are the ones that others love and remember. I think God's word always accomplishes its task. A friend of mine calls those time bombs. We don't see a reaction now, but later they go off and God uses average talks.
