New Office Look

I have a brand new office look that I really like. While I was away on a trip, my assistant spent hours giving my office a make over. The desk is gone, replaced with an old dining table. The walls are painted a soft brown and there is warm decor all over the place. I've taken a little heat from colleagues and friends who think it's a tad too feminine and not quite 'kurtish' enough. Here are three pictures that give the best look. What say you?

That is a great looking office. Is that Grandma Rachel's knitting I see next to the really soft chair? :P

Oh, I don't know what does "Soft Brown" and "Warm Decor" say to you?

Last I heard, you didn't have an office. It was all 'open plan'. Did that not work out?

Love the leather chair in the corner. Looks like the kind of chair that you could sit in with a pipe and a sherry wearing slippers and a smoking jacket listening to the wireless from days of yore.

I think it looks like my grandma's kitchen table fell into grandpa's den. Can I call you gramps now. And ditto on the previous comment... I think you now need a Riptide pipe. That should go over well...

Depends on the purpose (hehe) of your office. Is it just a place for you to be a jr hi guy or is it a place that you will be with kids, adults, parents, etc. or something else.

I like the look but really all you need is a small fridge, a roll out and 1/2 bath and you could just move right in...of course lets see some pics in about 2 weeks to see what "jr high" feel it may grab by the traffic that will come through there...

A few ideas I'm thinking about to 'man it up':
- get rid of granny chairs and replace with something else.
- put up a few old surf photos
- mount a bloddy sword on the wall.

James, yes...the original plan was to have no office, just open shared spaces but NOBODY ever stepped foot into this space so I decided to go ahead and make it my own. It is still open space when I'm not around, which is part of the reason it looks the way it does.

other ideas:

mount a deer head on the wall
gun rack
a flat screen TV with a 360

anything looks good to me. I'm stuck in a 6X6 cubby with a 3X3 photocopier, you do the math!

Could you post more about the "no office" "open space" idea? I'm curious.

Eric, when we moved into our new offices, there were enough offices for each person on the team to have one, but I decided that nobody would have their own (myself included) and that, instead, we would all have cubicles and could just jump into any open office we wanted to for some privacy etc. For some reason, it has worked pretty well except nobody ever stepped foot into the 'surf office'. I think that was partly because I was in it quite a bit and people assumed they couldn't use it. I kept reminding them that it was open, but nobody ever used it. Finally, I decided to formally make it my own.

Johnny...I'll track you down.

I think the kitchen table idea is awesome...however that would take up my entire office.
