Hell

I realize I'm opening myself up to take a few hits on this one, but that's okay. I'd love to hear your thoughts on teaching a tough topic to junior highers: HELL. As I mentioned in my Weekend Wrap Up, we are doing a two week series called What's Next? Week one is a look at hell and week two will be a look at heaven. Below is my outline from last weekend's message.

WHAT'S NEXT?A Short Look At Forever
Week 1

Sooner Or Later, Everybody Asks: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DIE?
“He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

There Are Only Two Options: HEAVEN Or HELL
“Heaven can be entered only through the narrow gate! The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide enough for all the multitudes who choose its easy way.” Matthew 7:13

WHAT HELL IS:

HORRIBLE
“They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 13:42

ETERNAL
"They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power.” 2 Thessalonians 1:9

LONELY
“And many shall be cast into outer darkness, into the place of weeping and torment.” Matthew 8:12

LEGITIMATE

WHAT HELL IS NOT:

Hell is not INTENDED for YOU!

“The Lord is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9

“There are many homes up there where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with me where I am. If this weren’t so, I would tell you.” John 14:2-3

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

HELL Is No Place To Call HOME!

I'd love to see it fleshed out, but I like the outline. The thing is, kids DO wonder and so many think it is the cartoon depiction (which, depending on the cartoon, doesn't seem that bad [unfortunately]) and don't get the loneliness and eternal separation aspect of hell.

How did the kids react to the topic?

This is a great topic. So under taught I belive. We recently did a series on Heaven and it is amazing how many misconceptions people have.

kury looks like a great start...just wondering what visuals (pics, movies, drama) you may use to help illustrate the points....

we did a similar series last year & it went well.

Enjoy the time & look forward to follow up
