A Small Case of Writer's Block

I don't write a ton, so I've never really understood or experienced what a case of writer's block feels like. Until now.
The deadline for the next two books I'm writing with Marko is a month away and I'm not finding my groove, which is weird because I consider myself quite groovy! I've been getting to Starbucks by 6:30 or so every morning but just can't get into a good rythm. I'm not panicking yet, but I can see it coming.

the fact that i'm posting a comment on your post about writer's block, while i, also, am sitting in a starbucks for the purpose of (theoretically) writing my half of the same two books... well.. that says something! i did get a chapter written this morning, however.

Hey Mark and Kurt-

I really am enjoying the books. I think I am going to use your format for summerizing the Bible in our confirmation classes. Good Stuff!

I was very pleased to find out that our church librarian just purchased the first two books and made them avaiable in our "young teens" section. Of course, our junior highers are going to have to wait in line, because I'm snatching those bad boys up to read them first!

Thanks for the encouragement, guys!

I'm wondering if ya'll have hired a girl's ministry gal to replace the one you lost? Do you have any advice for females looking for such a specific job within churches? I've been faithful to a church for many years and I know many feel strongly about hiring internally, but that hinders those of us who have been faithfully serving in a church which has no intention of opening a position that you truly long to fill. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this sometime!

Ashley,
No, we haven't hired that position yet. If you're interested, I'd be happy to take a look at your resume....just send it to kurtj@saddleback.net

I do agree that lots of churches try to hire from within and I think there are benefits as well as liabilities to that approach.

Biggest benefit: When hiring from within you get somebody who already knows your culture, your values etc.

Biggest liability: When hiring from within you get somebody who already thinks like you, believes like you etc. You lose the opportunity to get 'fresh eyes' on your ministry.

Ashley, if you feel a calling to vocational ministry and you know that it will never happen in your current setting, I woud suggest you prayerfully begin asking God to direct you a place where you can fulfill that calling. There are all sorts of places to get that ball rolling such as the job bank boards on the y.s. website. While lots of churches would hire from within if given the choice, most of the time they still end up hiring somebody from the outside.
