We've landed on a name for our new student building. Thanks a ton for all of your suggestions. A few names that got us thinking and were in the running were:
- The Hub
- The Foundry
- The Warehouse
- The Mill
Ultimately we landed on 'The Refinery' as the name. We think it matches the look of the building and also has a great biblical tie-in. Since nobody suggested Refinery, I will hold onto the $100 worth of free Junior High resources until somebody suggests an easier contest!

Considering...
"The Warehouse" being the name of the first level on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1...
and "The Foundry" being the name of the first level on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3...
I would say you made a good choice going with The Refinery...
although there is a chance you are ripping off Tony Hawk 7 and just don't know it yet...
Our jr. high ministry is called The Refinery. Therefore you should send the 100 bucks to Lucas.
Nice job on the name. AND...
Ok, I'll suggest an easier contest:
How many blog posts has Kurt put up on SimplyKurt? First person to answer wins.
Oh! New contest. Um... 505 posts.
Do I win?!?
How about 497!
Hey Kurt, great name for the place. Like the pics. It looks amazing!
I wanted to ask if you could tell me what I should do. I'm a small group leader for a bunch of junior highers on Wednesday nights, and my church hasn't really provided any curriculum for it. The past few months I've been scraping up free ideas from different youth ministry sites, but it's starting to get a little repetitive. I'd love to have something really good to do each week, but it usually ends up being something I throw together at the last minute. I'm a junior at Criswell College in Dallas right now and already have a lot of studying for that. Is it normal for a youth ministry to not give curriculum or at least ideas for curriculum to their volunteers? What should I do?

Hey Matt. Without knowing details, I would say that in a typical youth ministry, the church/youth ministry would try to provide some sort of curriculum to help you in your small group but maybe they don't see the purpose of the group as Bible study? I would suggest you talk to the youth pastor or staf member that gives direction to the youth ministry to see if he/she can help you find some materials. If you can't seem to get what you need, feel free to contact me and I'll point you in the right direction! You can email me at kurtj@saddleback.net

That's FUNNY!
'the refinery' is the name for our sunday night jr. high ministry. since we're fire&water student ministries, jr. highers being the fire part...we thought it fit.
i'm with mike...can we share the prize?
I think you should just call it the Student Zone. Nothing else on campus has a fancy name. Think about it: Worship Center, Children's Building, Tent 3...
I don't think The Refinery will catch on since we've been calling it the Student Zone for years. Besides, things inside the building will have different names (rooms, cafes), so do you really want to explain yourself twice?
Keep it simple. Call it the Student Zone.
It's interesting to see that "The Warehouse" came up as one of your close finishers. That's the name we ended up giving to our worship space in our student building that we're about to have been in for one year.
We should have some type of one year celebration.
We're getting a new MS youth pastor too, so that's exciting. He's a guy that interned with us. Our current one is going to be heading up a new college aged/young adult ministry, so he'll still be around.
